Somebody stole my shoes, so I'll amputate my legs.

"This isn't the first time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees with him and opposes everything most other women want and need. Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It's about making life more fair for women everywhere."

-Gloria Steinem. Read the whole article in the LA Times while listening to 9 to 5 and anything by Heart, who told the McCain people to stop using Barracuda for Palin's theme song.

I will miss all the flexing of ideals and convictions of the presidential race, but I won't miss the uncertainty. Palin was a frightening and formidable weapon, and the one good thing about her 15 minutes of fame - which the author mentions - is that she helped rip apart and discombobulate the core Republican base of conservative, working class stiffs and repel the more sensible moderates. I think the GOP is just cocky and used to doing whatever it wants without being called into account in any serious way. They probably thought their old assurance tactics ("the fundamentals of our economy are strong) and appeals to people's gut instincts would win them another four (or possibly 8) years.

Wrong.
